Skyline Magazine is now the new Skyline Review - perfect bound 6 x 9 book, generally 200+ pages, published ANNUALLY, each summer.  We have no particular themes.  We look for interesting, quality literature and color cover art of all styles and genre. The Creation of Skyline books is the passion of two ladies. As we do not have funding and do not wish to place advertising inside our lovely publications, we cannot offer payment or contributor copies. We do however offer a variety of fine books featuring a broad selection of wonderful poetry and unique short stories contributed by new and experienced writers. Book purchase is not necessary for publication. Note to our contributors.

Skyline Review may be purchased for $18.00 USD which includes shipping.  Skyline publications are intended for a mature audience.

Short Story Guidelines:

  • All Manuscripts Must Be Submitted PRINT READY.  We cannot make author revisions after accepted manuscripts have been added to our document.  Accepted stories will be printed "as is".  Please submit what you consider to be a FINAL copy.
  • Please submit stories single spaced without tabs. Use Verdana or Times New Roman fonts.
  • ASTERIKS *** must enclose any text that should be italicized. ALL THOUGHTS SHOULD BE ITALICIZED.  I wish all manuscripts were submitted this way, she thought.  Would be *I wish all manuscripts were submitted this way,* she thought.
  • EXAMPLE .  Single space but skip an extra space between paragraphs and dialogue/change of speakers.  Use a line of asteriks to indicate change of scene or time. We'll do the formatting.
  • We consider 'shorts' and essays of 1500 words.
  • Short Stories: 4000 word maximum is the norm, however, for exceptional material we'll publish up to 5000 words
  • We accept simultaneous submissions, and for our E-Magazines prefer stories that have not been previously published on the Internet.
  • Skyline PRINT publications will not publish previously published material.

  • Skyline reserves the right to correct errors and restructure sentences if necessary, but we won't re-write a story.  Submitting a clean manuscript is the author's responsibility, and the only way to have your story accepted.
  • By submitting, you are giving your permission to Hudson View, Skyline Review or Literary House Review to print all or part of your submission (literary and/or artwork.)
  • Include a brief, third person bio not to exceed 75 words for print, and a brief synopsis of the story you are submitting.
  • A short synopsis will help us get back to you more promptly.
  •  Due to a backlog of submissions and lack of resources, we will no longer be able to reply to every submission.  If your story is accepted, you will hear from us at our earliest convenience, which could take up to 4 months.  This is the primary reason we accept simultaneous submissions, as we do not want to tie your work up.  If your story is accepted elsewhere, please advise us so that we may remove your material from our files. We ask for first publishing rights. Thank you for your patience.

Skyline seeks all genre of fresh, well written, new story concepts.  Please send your original creations edited for grammar and sentence structure - ready for publication. If our editors like a story, but feel a bit of tweaking is necessary, we'll contact the author with constructive suggestions.  We do not critique, but if we feel a story has great potential, we may offer our opinion on story improvement and ask the author if they would like to revise, so it may be accepted for our publications.  Please submit clean, edited manuscripts. We suggest you have someone proof your manuscript, such as an editor or a friend, to check grammar and punctuation.  Although we do final spelling and grammar checking of stories, "clean" manuscripts receive priority consideration and ultimate publication.
